Reconnecting with family members
Getting into a weird but refreshing vibe this week of wanting to reconnect any other way besides social media. Did a thing today and reached out to a few of my cousins by text and actually had decent "text" conversations! I'm sure they were thinking...OMG, is she sick or dying? Like, WHY is she texting? But it was nice actually. You get alot more interaction from a one on one text than you do from a social media post. Imagine if I actually CALLED them on the phone? LOL. Now come on, I'm trying to become better connected but don't be ridiculous. Baby steps!!
I've been doing this thing where I am finding ways to do my daily tasks that don't involve the direct use of my phone or social media. Social media has made me feel so disconnected. Also, TikTok feels like I am just being fed ad after ad, promotion after promotion. "You need this chair because it has this thing for your feet!" or "OMG this is the most comfortable jumper I have ever had, I bought it in EVERY color!"...of course, consumerism at it's finest. We are constantly being fed these ads through content creators that we enjoy. It's a mind trick.
Some of the things I have been doing for example are reading physical books more, watching YouTube for educational or entertainment content which tend to have alot less advertising material, and what I did today which was contact some loved ones by text and not by the social media platforms. I still haven't written the letter to my past BFF from my younger years since I just got her address (see previous post) but it's on my to-do list!
Some other thoughts are switching back to a physical planner instead of a digital calendar, but my work revolves so much around my Outlook calendar I'm a little afraid I might miss something super important! I mix in the personal items with the work items so I see it daily. I was thinking also about going back to using only my computer to check my personal emails at intervals throughout the day, instead of checking them throughout the day. Why do we have to be so available to everyone all of the time? We don't have to be. Time to decondition from that shit.
